Noooooooooo not that!

Do what you want, it's s free country. But if you believe it's a miracle weight loss pill and there won't be any side effects I have some ocean front property in Nebraska you would be interested in that comes with a bottle of snake oil that'll solve baldness.

Or just bust a hole in the side of the apartment building and drag them out with a crane.

I mean...what do the truly obese have to lose? I think there are far more dire health issues staring them in the face than worrying about bone density loss in 10 years. I lost bone density from obsessive bike racing but I didn't quit riding because of it.

Eta check the fitness board. There's some pretty happy baws over there who have their active life back thanks to this.

I have literally not heard one person say there are no side effects. I have simply heard people say that the risk of side effects beats all the horrific health risks that come with obesity, such as someone dying 15 years ahead of schedule because they have diabetes.

Wrong. Been around for decades. Extremely safe and studied over time. This drug targets a deficiency of an existing hormone. Obesity is largely(but not entirely) driven by a deficiency of GLP-1, a naturally occurring hormone in our bodies. GLP-1 agonists trigger the increase of production of this hormone to make it rise to more normal levels.

Think about it differently. If your AC stopped cycling on when the temp rose too far above the temp setting, would you get that fixed? Of course. Wegovy(and other GLP-1 agonists) simply do the same thing. They intervene to fight the natural deficiency.

When a patient has a GLP-1 deficiency, the sensation of hunger is not regulated properly and patients report “food noise.” For most, this “food noise” is not able to be overcome by will power, fad diets, “move more eat less,” etc.

Bariatric surgeries and medical weight loss treatment(GLP-1 agonists) change the hormonal balance in the body.

If you have heart disease, and you take pills to minimize the chances of a cardiac event, would you one day stop taking those pills because they had been working? Of course not. Medical treatment is needed perpetually for chronic disease. Obesity is a chronic disease. It now has a treatment that is becoming more widely accepted and actually works. Lifetimes of failure in fighting this disease with conventional and wrong approaches has conditioned people to think something like this can’t be without a catastrophic price to pay. Well, penicillin and ibuprofen had similar reactions when they were first discovered and developed for the masses.

Sadly, old thinking still dies hard for many.

Just so we're clear on the rest of my post: I'm in general agreement with you.

I mean, are people really saying this? Feels strawmannish at the very least.

So, back to my original point, I believe that, in broad (heh) general terms, the overweight to slightly obese folks (BMI 25 to 31ish) absolutely should watch what/how much they eat, get sufficient exercise and all those positive things. Those things have benefits outside of weight loss so, frankly, everyone should do it to some degree (genetics cannot do everything).

Having said that, being significantly obese carries known risks of its own. The suggestion that the risks of these drugs/weight loss treatments are starting from 0 is disingenous. It must be balanced against the risk of remaining obese. That is classic risk/benefit analysis.
