30 minute video below explaining what's in it... also cool video of the recent explosive demolition of part of the bridge that was still on the ship's bow

TL;DW(atch)

-Low voltage circuit breaker trips on the Dali which kills power to... among other things... a cooling & oil pump for the engine which forces the engine to immediately shut down in a computerized act of self-preservation

-The crew quickly gets the spare breakers up to get power back online... but restarting the engine is a multi-step process

-As the crew is trying to get everything back online... the breakers from diesel generators 3 & 4 (the active generators) to the high voltage curcuit trip causing the second outage

-Diesel generator 2 immediately starts to come online as part of the redundancy system and power is starting to return... but this just kills any chance of getting the engine back running in time... and without the engine running, any commands to the rudder (which some were input) were almost useless too

-The anchor was dropped and a tug was called... but the ship was too close to the bridge for either to be helpful (and in the tug's case... it was 3 miles away)

-There was a blackout on the ship at port prior to the incident... but that was attributed to crew member error and not something mechanically wrong with the ship

-The ship came in at such a hard angle that it completely missed the "dolphin" meant to help protect the bridge... and the protection right at the columns wasn't adequate

-An inspector with the construction crew on the bridge was able to run and make it to 1 of the spans that didn't collapse just in time... lucky guy who probably has terrible survivor's guilt right now... that's in addition to the construction crew member who was able to free himself from the truck he was in and get rescued from the water

-The bodies of the 6 other construction crew members have all been recovered... RIP to them.

I can help: It was the gigantic ship that hit it; that's what made it collapse.

Where do I send the bill?

I've kinda been following the process of opening the full channel back up. This is a picture of the controlled explosion to break up the truss sitting on the MV Dali since it was too big to lift. This happened Monday.
