As of today I see the Saints keeping Rattler to backup Carr and trying to get Heaner onto the practice squad.

Unless Rattler totally shits the bed in training camp which I seriously doubt.

I think there's a different mindset now and they will not be desperate to have a #2 QB that can keep the team in contention if Carr goes down. IMO they understand they have to figure out the long term answer art QB and if Carr does miss significant time then they will know the season is likely shot and will want to figure out what they have in Rattler and probably Heaner too at some point.

If Mond or Peterman beat out these two rookies then IMO that is your answer at QB. i.e. we have no viable long term QB on the roster.

why do we have to declare a statement like this?

we have no idea what rattler can be under kubiak's offense. haener to a little bit smaller degree.

Kellen Mond was cut.

I think Peterman is your backup unless Rattler looks very good...good enough to contribute to winning a game in a pinch like you said. I disagree that Rattler not being ready to beat out Peterman means anything. Whatever he becomes will be determined in the next 12-24 months.

My best guess is Haener is cut or practice squad. Best guess is Rattler is on roster to keep poaching from happening.

Rattler will be kept in some capacity no matter what.

Carr = is who he is, which is avg to below avg qb. Game manager. Bandaid for the franchise
Rattler = good amount of potential. Will be ready to perform sooner than people think
Peterman = trash journeyman back up
Haener = irrelevant

Peterman will be on the practice squad. He is only there to teach the offense and be an emergency QB. Haener and Rattler will duke it out for #2 spot. Neither of them will go on the practice squad.

Should have posted my whole statement instead of clipping it and making it seem like I said something that I didn't so you could get on your soapbox.

But you do you.

carr is an avg qb, who has flashes from time to time. leads the nfl in 4th quarter comebacks since he's been in the league. he's good enough. odds are that a team will rarely, if ever, get a franchise qb who hangs around for 10+ years. our qb room could be better, but it isn't what's holding the team back.

i do hope rattler can live up to his potential and become our starter in the future.

IF we can be average at LT this year, it would go a long way in making the qb position look a lot better.

With how that 49ers game played out a couple years ago and the rule changes that followed, I think more teams are keeping 3 QBs on the 53. I'd expect to see Carr, Haener, and Rattler all make the official roster.

your whole statement is dumb. we didn't spend 10 million on a backup qb on roster this year. breaking news. Although, not sure if new guy would dare want to go taysom route if needed full time. I'm thinking they are hoping Rattler can take qb2 reigns sooner than later.

They are not impressed with Haener and decided instead of a pricey vet they’ll either use Taysom or a rookie QB when Carr inevitably goes down.

I think you hold onto Haener and Rattler. No reason to bring in a vet on this team. Haener gets scooped up if you try to sneak him in the practice squad.

I think both Rattler and Haener will make the roster. Either would likely be poached if placed on practice squad. Don't forget, Haener was well-liked by the draftniks and presumably the NFL last year, he was not considered a reach in the 4th round. There are probably some coaches out there who still think he has potential. There is no demand for Peterman - he'll be on the PS or a phone call away if the Saints get desperate due to injuries.

This is all assuming neither Rattler nor Haener shite the bed in a dramatic way during the preseason.

Who told you this? This is the opposite of reports I read last year. That Haener looked better than Winston in practices. I woukd think he should have improved even more.

I think they just had a high grade on Rattler so why not take him in the 5th. No one woukd have batted an eye if he went in the third.

Doubtful if Hill is still on the roster and being used in his traditional capacity.

I think the Peter has a better chance of dating Taylor Swift.

Agree. I don’t think finding a replacement for Haener was a goal going into the draft. I don’t think drafting Rattler has anything to do with how the Saints view Haener. It was, “Well damn, look who’s still available in the 5th round.” A QB with a 3rd round grade. You throw him in the mix.

The new nfl allows a 3rd dressed out qb game day that doesn't count so its probable if you don't want them poached from PS.

I think Peterman will most likely start the season as QB2 unless Rattler or Haener really show something. Having him sit on the PS really doesn't do much for the team; because the issue they need to be prepared for is last year's GB game. Who is most likely able to step in and hold a lead if Carr misses significant time in the middle of a game.

With a new offensive regime, all bets are off. They have no ties to Haener. The SF staff was pretty familiar with Haener

This team isn’t going anywhere, there’s no reason not to keep both around to vet their talent. But Rattler is a lock, don’t think we can say the same for Haener

No way in hell the Saints risk Haener or Rattler when teams must put players on the PS for the first time before the season starts and must pass through waivers. Peterman can be cut and brought back with zero risk if the Saints so choose lol
