Food has actually been a drag on inflation the past year or so.
The inflation figures including food have been LOWER than when food is excluded from the calculation.

Sure, when you subjectively change what items you are using to calculate inflation.
Coffee was recently removed, for instance…. Why? Oh because the cost of coffee has risen FAR faster than other consumables so they ditched it from the equation.

Which had relatively little to do with overall inflation and much more to do avian flu. Once that resolved egg prices cratered and even got lower than 2018 highs for a brief period last year.
