Away team doesn’t score. They intentionally walk the 1st batter so it’s 1st & 2nd with no out.

Only one is needed to win.

Is the play always to bunt them over to 2nd and 3rd to set up a sac fly win?

Sure, they can intentionally walk again to set up another DP opportunity but a sac fly or the right ground out wins.

When I first started watching baseball in the 80's bunting was absolutely the play.

In this day of analytics, apparently it is not. And I don't get it. I'm too old-school to understand apparently

Why would they intentionally walk the first batter and purposely put the winning run in base?

And how does intentionally walking the FIRST batter put a runner in first and second?

Sac fly to RF will move the winning run. So depends if the guy who would be initially walked is the hitter you want at the plate.

Your logic is sound. But if you sac bunt, you cannot strike out. If you strike out, you essentially kill the inning. In modern day pro baseball, bullpen arms are strikeout pitchers. Strikeouts happen at a super high rate. So it is just a numbers game. 3 opportunities to get a hit.
