Johan Santana 2012 game log

This is why teams don't push pitchers to chase unnecessary no hitters in the regular season. Santana threw a 134 pitch no hitter on 6/1/2012. That was his season high pitch count by 26. This was his 11th start of the season.

First 11 starts: 68 IP, 2.35 ERA, 2.79 FIP, 68/21 K/BB ratio

10 starts after that: 49 IP, 8.27 ERA, 5
89 FIP, 45/18 K/BB ratio

He never threw another pitch in the majors after that. Sean Newcomb got up to 140ish pitches chasing a no hitter in 2018 and was never the same pitcher again.

And I can go through MLB history and produce scads of 125+ pitch no-hit/CG outings by pitchers who went on to Hall of Fame careers.
