How are so many people defending Scheffler against THIS...

The golfers were given permission to go around the fatality being worked. It's not Schefflers fault that low IQ cop hung on to his car.
Essentially, Scheffler was doing what he was told he could do and some other cop decided to "have his authoritie" threatened.

I got arrested once and the police report said I had an open bottle of crown in my truck. I dont drink whiskey period, but I had a crown bag with a flashlight and knife in it within my console. But yeah, believe everything the fuzz print.

It was early morning and a there were a ton of flashing lights. Scheffler was going where he was supposed to be. Per Jeff Darlington:
Police scraped his knee and they want to charge him for the pants.
Edit to add: Seems to me the police found out they messed up and, instead of just chalking it up to the simple misunderstanding that is was, decided to send the officer to the hospital for "treatment" for his scrapped knee and overcharge. The value of the pants is the kicker.

That's fair enough.
But for a lot of people, even if the video is terrible and egregious, they won't admit that they were wrong and instead they will double down, because people refusing to change their mind on the internet after initially taking a stance is another social media phenomenon. Saw this over and over during the BLM social justice spring and summer on social media.
