What is Buckhead in Atlanta? Is it more fun than the name suggests? I've never been to Atlanta. Want the opinion of LSU fan. Not Georgia fan. If it is great fun, give me an example.

Yeah, when I think 'upscale', first thing that comes to mind is ESPN Sportszone.

We went two years ago for the SECCG and they were doing alot of construction and most places were closed at 10pm on a thursday night. From what I was told, most of the bars in that area were being sold or bought to make room for residential development.

Buckhead is about 5 miles from down town ATL. It's the banking center of atlanta and very upscale neighborhood. it's was known for it's gold club (night club district years back). You will run into celebrities, at the Lenox Mall. Party wise don't know.

live in buckhead. the bar scene has been cut down significantly and is located to one strip. it is frat-tastic, if you are into that scene.

if married, your wife would love the shopping - as does mine - and that and the restaurants are top shelf.

by the way, buckhead is not a desinated community, per se. it is more defined by its borders (vinings in the west, sandy springs in the north, midtown in the south and dekalb in the east). just an FYI.

it used to be several things (as far as entertainment goes):

1) dive bars for former frat types (near E. Andrews). This still exists. (Red Door etc)

2) drinking spot for youngsters (GaTech types etc). Moon Dogs. Still exists.

3) Gangsta bars/clubs mixed with random good places (Fado). Gone. Fado moved.

4) E. Andrews--good upstairs for music. Cheesy downstairs.

5) Roxy. still there--good music venue usually.

6) Overpriced restaurants (although Buckhead Diner is a favorite place to use my B'Head Life gift cards).

Overall not where you want to be. Highlands is much better these days. E. Atlanta is much better. Hell, Decatur (Oakhurst esp), Cabbage Town, Grant Park, Inman Park, Little Five Points, and Kirkwood are better.

The Highlands gives you everything you need though. Going North to South: Caramba; BBQ place and el Taco; George's, Cavern (can be sketch), Moe's & Joe's, Fontaine's, Highland Tap, Noche, Taco Mac, Diesel, Ten High (esp on Thur nights--Yacht Rock), Limerick Jnct, Dark Horse(meh), Atkins, good Mexican place behind Dark Horse, Hand in Hand, Neighbors, then cross Ponce to Righteous Room, down to the Local and Clairmont Lounge.

In a word, no reason to go to buckhead. Plus, you can head down ponce to 78 and cruise to athens.

Virginia/Highlands is the place to go. Atkins Park is the oldest tavern in ATL. Noche is a tapas place where everything on the menu is good. Taco Mac's has decent tacos and an extensive beer selection. Can be reached from downtown hotels or those near Emory U.
