Memphis. Spent 4 years there, and while there's plenty to gripe about, there's still more to do there than in Birmingham, IMO. There's been a bit of a revival in downtown Memphis and Overton Park as well.

For the record, I live in Birmingham, but having visited Memphis quite a few times, I can say that I'd far prefer living in Birmingham. Birmingham is more diverse, and is truly on the upswing. I also prefer our topography...

Nice to see some different cities being debated.
If I had to choose, I'd visit Memphis for a weekend, but live in Birmingham.

It's really one of the loveliest residential areas in all of the South. It's a shame that most of the rest of Birmingham (with a couple of exceptions) is just downright awful, though.
