One of the doctors I work with did a full iron man in 2015. He trained for a full year. He would take off work when he had to do long bike rides or long runs. He would get up at 4am to do his swims. His goal was to finish in the allotted time allowed, which was 17 hours. He finished in 14 hours. And he was 63 when he did all this.

My only advice would be to take the recovery week afterward. You need to let your body heal. He came back to work that Tuesday. A few days later he was in the ER with a kidney stone. The two might not have been related but still....

I am literally getting on a flight at 7:30 the morning after for a Disney cruise out of Miami. Need to upgrade to business class soon to get leg room to stretch and stuff. Scheduling a massage or something that first day on the boat. Letting the wife handle the little one for the first day or two.

Also bought the vacation insurance just in case I can't get out of the bed the next morning (or wreck on the bike or something and end up in the hospital).
