Thanks man. I was telling my wife yesterday one of the things I have trouble with is the different level of “good” that I feel for myself vs what others is good for a normal runner (I’m fully aware I’m the weird abnormal one in this situation). Like I know a lot of people would love to run that time in a marathon and everything and it probably makes me look like an arse being pissed I ran that time but I also have my personal expectations and when I don’t live up to them it pisses me off. Maybe it’s a transfer of my coaching mindset I don’t know. It’s not even not running the 2:40. Honestly I could’ve lived with having run even a 2:55 yesterday if it meant I ran the whole thing. It was the fact that I had to stop repeatedly that gets to me. Same thing I ask of my kids. If you’re not always running your fastest that’s okay what I care about is the effort you give. Just feel like yesterday wasn’t my best effort.
Thinking on it I think I backed off of longer continuous workouts too soon. My body definitely wasn’t able to process the lactic acid as well as it should’ve been. Even though I felt great running those 6:36/37 paced runs last week that was probably a bit too much and I probably should’ve forced myself to take it easy. I also wonder how much being sick a few weeks ago threw things off. That was a pretty crucial week and taking 5/6 days off in that period probably wasn’t great.
