I have a very long story about mold. We had a water leak in a rental house that was reported but never corrected. Didn't think too much about it until our son was diagnosed with a severe hearing loss, he was 6 at the time, that was determined to be environmental not physical. My wife, an RN, had our home tested, and it was found to contain mold, Black Mold, from the water leak.
We moved out immediately. The tests later revealed we had mold on everything we owned, furniture, electronics, college text books, clothing........everything. We ended up throwing everything we owned away because cleaning would have only given us a slim chance of removal of all mold and it would have eaten up our entire insurance policy.
We trashed $200k of "stuff", our entire accumulated home furnishings and possessions. Bought a house and moved in with nothing but the clothes on our back. Our children 18 years later still suffer from severe mold allergies and immune deficiencies.
Mold, black mold is as bad as they say and based on my family, much worse.
