In the footsteps of the unintentionally iconic Monkey Christ, the Tintin St George, the near-fluorescent Virgin and Child– not to mention the less than sinlessly executed Immaculate Conception – comes … well, it’s hard to say.

The latest Spanish restoration effort to provoke anguished headlines and much social media snarking is, or rather, was, a carved figure adorning an ornate, early 20th-century building in the north-western city of Palencia.

They messed that up so bad that surrounding stonework is different.

Im convinced the purpose of these “restoration efforts” is actually to destroy timeless european art

Another example to support my earlier claim. Its so laughably bad that it must be intentional

How does somebody even get that far before realizing they've screwed up? That's so bad that I feel like you'd have to either be incredibly dumb or doing it on purpose. I notice I've screwed up on shite like making a cake or a sandcastle almost instantly. A stone sculpture should be easy as hell to know if you did something wrong.

I screw up a lot of shite so I'm qualified to answer. It gets that bad by trying to "fix it" well past the point of fixing it being a viable option.

Why amateurs are allowed to get within 500ft of some of these works of art is beyond me.
