I've been near the Magazine/Napoleon intersection for nine years. Great neighborhood, very walkable. I'm a dude but the only crime I've dealt with was one car break in last year where they busted out two windows so not terrible for a nine year stretch.
Despite all of the negativity in this thread, the Audubon Park/St. Charles/Magazine/Napoleon rectangle is one of the best and safest parts of the city. I'm on the river side of Magazine and it has gentrified considerably over the past decade to the point that it is no longer hood adjacent because the hood near the river doesn't really exist anymore.
Oh, and Lakeview sucks. Live in OM if you want that lifestyle.
