I have to be honest. As someone in an area of the state that is pretty much 100 percent without power and which was largely without any communication for over 3 days, the level of whine in some of the posts in this thread are cringey.

It's borderline sinful. The whine from this board and FB on day TWO of this thing is freaking bizarre, and all the while complaining about it from a charged iPhone. I can't imagine how y'all would have possibly survived a hurricane before the internet.

The lack of power is not some conspiracy against your family or street. And some of y'all need to realize that your kids are watching how you react to disasters. I imagine some of you curled up with your emotional support blankets.

To be fair the tv largely still worked then and there was more information available (and more people still owned) home radios.

The lack of information is getting to some people IMO, especially when everyone is use to instant information.

It was much easier to deal with these things back in the day in terms of changing patterns.

Most people are weak as frick today I’ll give you that, but it’s still a big change in routine for the rest of us as well that can become annoying

Check this map out...shows substations and transmission lines.

good info for those curious or just wanting to learn where their power comes from. the coursey substation is located behind the life storage place in the green area between coursey & tollway. if you look in the outage map you can see why so many neighbor hoods are still out that are fed by that station.

entergy i can assure you knows where the substation is, and what it feeds. when the get it repaired, half of the current outages will disappear

the blue diamond on this screenshot is the coursey substation

For those waiting on the coursey substation to come online, there is a small army of workers there since yesterday. The new transmission pole went up yesterday but not the lines. Looks like they are working on that now when I passed by.

Getting closer, hopefully.

Do you have any updated information this morning on return of power to Manchac Place? There were literally 5 trucks in my yard working, and then today nothing!

Just curious, I see everyone discussing this, but don’t see anyone saying what happened. Was it poles or did something blow up or what?

TIA

You have trouble reading

irony

quote:

I didn’t say they don’t have a plan

Neither did I. Of course they have a plan. But, suggesting that they don't know what reasonable estimates are for general locations (that's what you said) is retarded.

quote:

I said they don’t have a way to relay that plan to individual people without adding personnel and vetting the message. The people with the plan are engineers and EMS operators and supervisors. These people don’t exactly have a mechanism to relay their specific plans to every single customer a la cart.

This is not an excuse. It's EXACTLY what the deficiency is. And, it is self evident that they don't need a specific plan to every single customer. When power is out in large areas, the communication can be directed to those areas.

And, that's the point. The communication should follow the plan.

quote:

Again, any communication is going to be scrutinized. Entergy and other companies are constantly doing customer surveys. Hell, most employee’s bonuses are attached to the overall customer rating hitting a certain number. Inaccurate information, even if it’s an estimate, pisses people off more than you know.

If Entergy's surveys are telling them that people don't want information and would prefer to be left in the dark, then they need to fire everyone involved in doing those surveys. This thread is proof of that.

quote:

The two people in this thread who were relaying actual information about what substations are hot are people who obviously have access to the EMS data probably using a historian like PI. And if you haven’t been paying attention, for every time they’ve said that something should be happening, there are those who get their hopes up only to be let down

Those two people have been tremendous and if you asked everyone in here if they appreciated the info, you'd probably get 97% positives that they do.

I found out the other day that Coursey substation was severely damaged. I found out that a LARGE number of people were tied to that substation because it fed a number of areas. I found out that they were actively working on it (more than previous days) 2 days ago.

I didn't find any of that out from the utility companies. Frankly, if they were smart enough, they would be embarrassed.

quote:

I find it extremely ironic that you tell me I cant see the forest for the trees when it’s who you are being oblivious to some pretty logical points.

I'm sure you do.

Entergy is a multi-billion dollar company. To suggest that they aren't capable of performing this type of management and communication is beyond ridiculous. Excusing it the way that you do shows how ignorant you are.

Tree took out the transmission lines going to the substation. Not sure if it had other damage.

What areas does that substation affect? Does it feed into JT?

JT has it's own substation off Jefferson. Whether they're linked or not is way above anything I know.

FFS, how about they describe what they are fixing, why that is a priority, and what the expected impact is when it is fixed.

That is different from this:

quote:

“we’ve assessed your area and expect __”

I think what you are talking about should absolutely be communicated and it typically is not. As in where we are with restoration and where we are heading next and why. That would be a lot more useful that some arbitrary date that is probably so far in the future that it just pisses people off and electricity will probably be on before that date anyway.

If anyone with Demco contacts could give me an update, that would be great.

I’m near a monster Demco switchyard/substation but still no power or activity this way. I made a gas run to Costco at midnight and secured another 25 gallons for the generator.

From my drive around a I feel like we have been close for a few days. Actually saw them complete work on E Groner which someone said was the issue they found that caused a problem when trying to energize.

Wish I knew the plan or what was next
