Happened too my now almost 30 year old son when had was 18 or 19 months old. Slipped on socks on a hardwood floor in our home. He had a spiral fracture. Was in traction for a week and then the same type of general anesthesia to set the leg and cast it. Was in a hip spica cast that basically immobilized his broken leg and allowed him to move his other leg but really from the knee down. There was a cutout for a diaper.
No fun. But they are tougher than they seem. He wore the cast for six weeks. Had to learn how to walk all over again. He did learn how to peg leg behind a push toy with the cast and was walking again within a few days of it being removed
