Went fishing today and on the way home stopped and got some live crabs on side the road . Do I just boil like crawfish except longer? Usual crawfish seasoning do the trick?

I season them basically just like I would crawfish. Boil them until they float, soak them until they sink is the way I was always taught, never had any issues.

They take longer to float then do crawfish, but you get the idea.

Ice them before you drop them in the pot.

dont skip this. much lower chance of them popping legs and claws off.

Those are some nice crabs. I've always boiled for 5 minutes and soaked for 25-30. Haven't tried the float/sink method.

Nice timing on this thread. I’m about to walk across the street here in a bit with some tunes, some beers, and my new crab trap, and try and catch some of those for dinner.

seasoning must be way stronger for crabs than shrimp or crawfish

drop them into a rolling boil then 12 minutes and they are done, soak as desired but it takes a longer soak to get seasoning into the shells so i do 30-45 minutes

Drop in a rolling boil. Let them come back to a slow boil...count 5 minutes. Cut the fire and soak @ 20 minutes, until a claw taste right.

Ice the crabs before you put them in the pot. Reduces the likelihood they drop their claws.

Crab boils are not as scientific as shrimp or crawfish. The level of fullness really can determine soak times. It is important to start doing test crabs after 10-15 minutes of soak every 5 minutes or so. Nothing worse that wasting a basket of crabs because you let them overcook just because they were a little light and needed to get out of the hot water a tad sooner.

Don’t tell the green jeans but this big guy swam into my crab trap. Speckled trout and crabs for dinner.

I put them in tap water and bring it to a boil. They keep their legs. I know it's cruel, but delicious

Crabs are easy.

Ice water bath before boiling

Boil for 5 minutes with standard large bag/jar of seasoning

Soak for 15.

Not true unless you are trying to obliterate sweet crab flavor. An unseasoned crawfish is not very good, crabs boiled in plain salt water like lobster would still be delicious.

Well treated them like a crawfish boil

Big Bag of Louisiana Cajun Fire Seasoning
2/3 cup of Chinese Red Peppers
2 Bag of Boil Boosters (Citrus and Garlic)
Lemon Juice
Onions
Celery
Garlic

Tried to get some ice on these bastards but it didn’t matter they were some angry lil crabs and caught me a few times on the hand

Roaring boil , dumped in crabs, potatoes and sausage , cooked for 10 minutes

Killed boil dumped frozen corn, edamame, and the shooms on top and let them soak for about 25 minutes

I don’t know if these were just really fresh but I’ve never had meat exit crabs as easily as these did. I did throw in a lil vinegar but doubt that made much a difference.

Family was very satisfied and I ate myself stupid with these crabs. they were delicious
