Are you wanting to pay over retail?

Kentucky doesnt really have much more than anywhere else. Could get lucky at some distilleries. Could head up to Ohio and load up on Weller Antiques.

Woodford Reserve is about 35 minutes from downtown. We did that before a Keeneland weekend and the tour was fun.

A friend also recently recommended Castle and Key Distillery, which is close to Woodford.

Well.. Seattle charges 20% tax on it. Any place would literally be cheaper. Was thinking KY would have a better selection but maybe I'm wrong.

maybe compared to some states, not sure in comparison to yours. But they dont really have a better selection(At retail) than anyone else.

However, because of the bourbon trail tours, many shops hoard allocated stuff and sell at secondary or above.

Distilleries sometimes have small releases of hard to get bottles, but its luck of the draw type thing.

You are going to find a lot of different bourbons but very little rare or desirable bourbon.

The demand for good bourbon is so high that you won't be finding anything rare at non-secondary mark up in KY. Your best bets are duty free airport stores outside of the US and small, rural mom and pop liquor stores and gas stations that emphasize liquor sales.

Heaven Hill (Bardstown) and Michters (Louisville) put out some of their better bottles pretty regularly. Heaven Hill may have some Elijah Craig 18, William Heavenhill or Old Fitz behind the counter in the gift shop. You have to ask them. Michters has their 10 year bourbon and rye on the shelf in the gift shop pretty often. Four Roses could also have a special single barrel picked out by the master distiller.

Get there early, but be prepared to pay secondary pricing at either. Distilleries have to go through the same process to sell their own whiskey as retailers. Most distilleries will not undercut the prices of local retailers though. So, even if you find something good, just know that it will be above retail pricing.

The Kroger in Bardstown had a better bourbon selection than almost every ABC store I've been to in Alabama.

They didn't really have any "rare" ones though, but definitely more than I can get anywhere around Birmingham, especially from the smaller "craft" distilleries.

I used to frequent Lexington with my last company. OBC kitchen has quality food and a great bourbon selection.

Another great option for dinner is Malones. There is one near this place.

We did this once. It was interesting. The more you invest in seeing all of them, the more interesting it will be.

Not in Lexington but not a bad drive from there is the Willett distillery they usually have their Rye available in the gift shop. Just down the road from Heavenhill also.

Go to Woodford and then drive another 20 minutes to Frankfort and hit up Buffalo Trace. On rare occasion, they have Blanton’s in the gift shop. Woodford always has some neat single bottles for sale.

You can also go to the Bourbon Candy museum on the Versailles road.

Hit up a liquor barn. They always have some special themed bottles especially around the derby. They have a kentucky bourbon section. There are several locations around town
