Y'all always talk about pappys iron skillet.... so I swiped this iron heavy metal skillet from grandmas. Couldn't touch the handle cause you would burn your hand. I put it in the dishwasher and it came out with an orange rust on the inside.... normal ? is it not for the dishwasher ?? help, how do I fix this tia

You took your granny's cast iron and the first thing you did was put it in the dishwasher? Bring it back to her so she can paddle your dumb arse with it

Google how to clean a cast iron skillet. Hint - Not the dishwasher.

Now google how to season a rusty cast iron skillet.

Good luck

You are gonna want to run it through the dishwasher 3-5x more times until the rust disappears. Good luck.

The lack of simple, acquired intelligence in the world is troubling. Lots of folks just don’t pick up on things.

Keep running it through the dishwasher until both sides turn orange.

Never put oil on it and stay away from bacon.

You have to keep washing it until all the orange stuff comes off.

First you start a roux*

*But not until you fix the heirloom you absolutely trashed in the DISHWASHER.

Did you also murder her with said skillet because that’s the only way this story could get worse.

1. Hand wash with hot water and Brillo pad

2. Dry with towel

3. Season it with oil like canola or you can buy a seasoning spray from the store. Rub oil all over the skillet then use dry paper towel to remove excess oil

4. Put it on high heat till it starts smoking. Then store it
