I did not know a range finder was allowed in a professional tournament, just saw Schauffle’s caddie haul one out.

I think it’s only allowed for PGA Championship

Yep this is the only event that allows them. They really should allow them. If everyone has them, no one has an unfair advantage, plus it speeds up play.

They did trial experiments on tour. It did nothing to speed up play

They should be allowed throughout.


Most pros aren't aiming for pins anyway and range finders have a hard time zeroing in on terrain that's not a significant change in slope.

Because they still used yardage books as well. The only way it would speed up play would be to add the rangefinder in place of the yardage book, not in addition to. The more information they can get, they'll use it. Give them an anemometer, they'll use that too.

It would be interesting to see how many would chose a rangefinder over a yardage book if given the choice.
