The inner lining is peeling off of the Weber Spirit II that I have only had for about 4 years. Kind of disappointed, it wasn't as expensive as the Genesis series, but it also wasn't cheap. Can I scrape off all the loose lining and paint over it with something? Or am I back in the grill market for upcoming Memorial Day sales?

Other complaints: The peizo ignition lasted about 6 months.

The flavorizer bars are expensive and have to be replaced almost annually, maybe I just use it more than an average user.

The propane tank feature that measures your fuel level by weight has never worked.

And recently something has gone wrong with a safety valve somewhere. If you forget to turn off the tank, but turn off the burners, you still get a tiny bit of propane leak, you can smell it faintly when you walk by.

You probably just have cooked on greese/smoke that it peeling off. Just brush it off.

I have stainless flavorizor bars from Ebay on my Genesis.

What is peeling? The bottom is cast aluminum and the top doesn't have paint on the inside. The firebox should be part of the 10 yr warranty. I'd reach out to Weber.

Did you change the battery?

Look for non-weber branded, slightly cheaper. But mine last 2ish years.

I wouldn't trust either of these on any grill brand. The weight is controlled by a spring which will lose it's elasticity over time plus there's friction.
As far as the valve I always turn off the tank valve to be safe on any grill. Didn't know anyone relied on the grill knobs only.

I’ve had a Weber Genesis for several years. It’s fine and works well enough, but it’s not anything special or “better” than other grills I’ve used. No flare ups? BS, it’s flared up since first time I used it years ago.

Worthless “feature”

Have to turn off the burners first then turn off the tank few seconds afterward otherwise the flame is puny next time around and must be disconnected and reconnected to normalize.

The grill works fine for what I need it for, but it’s anything but special or highly recommended IMO

Its not a factory coating, it is carbon build up. Sure does look like black paint if you don't know. I have picked up several old genesis grills with this "defect".

This has happened to mine. It’s cooking residue, not flaking paint.

I’ve had a Genesis for around 6-7 years. I went to the Weber website because one of my ignitor’s stopped working. A few of my grill grates and flavorizers were starting to rust. I also noticed a small bit of rust on the backside of the firebox. The Weber website asked for pictures so I uploaded them. Within about 2 weeks I had all new parts including the firebox free of charge. I just left the new firebox in my shed and will replace when the existing gets really bad. Weber customer service is really good imo.

Call them - Don't just look up parts online and order. Customer service is very good - they will discount any replacements you need pretty heavily from pricing listed on the website.

Also some parts may be under warranty and replaced for no charge.

I second this. I’ve called and gotten flavorizer bars, ignitor, and grates free of charge over the course of 7 years. Their customer service is great.

It’s not paint. It’s residue from cooking. I usually just take a piece of wood and gently rub it off. That is if it bothers you
