What’s the best type of screw to use for mounting stuff to MDF wood?

I have an 18” power strip that I want to mount to a desk leg. Of course the desk is made of shifty MDF.
Do they make an certain type screw to use on brittle wood? I measured the mounting holes and they are 1/4” in diameter and the thickness of the leg in which I’m mounting it to is 1”.
Any help as always is appreciated.
Also, a courtesy thank you upfront for all your answers!!

A course thread screw is the key

I'm assuming you are going into a face and not an edge.
If attaching to a face side, pre-drill and just use a course dry wall screw.

Correct. Flat surface.

Looks like there's a special tip for MDF, that you don't have to pre-drill. Might need a washer with #6 in 1/4" hole.
Though I'm sure pre-drilling with a regular construction screw would work.

Or you could just use an anchor. Looks like there's one specifically for mdf.

When I used to work in a cabinet shop, we always just used coarse drywall screws for MDF. Just set the clutch on your screw gun, otherwise you'll break the heads off the screws.

I'd just drill a hole clean through and use a bolt with a washer on either side. I've torn up some MDF trying to use drywall screws and small (1.5 inch) brass screws.
