Had an OV today, was offered a football scholarship back in October and was "waiting on the offer", but also heard from several sources he was offered a basketball scholarship by McMahon today during his visit.

Football and basketball is next to impossible to do
Not with sports that overlap

The last football game of the year is Jan 9th. That's 6-7 possible games missed. We have basketball players missing that or more for "personal reasons". If they're good enough, who cares.

Tell me you don’t know anything about basketball with out telling me you know nothing about basketball…..
LSU was 12-1 in the pre conference slate.
SEC play started Dec. 28th Vs Arkansas.
So he would miss all the pre conference, plus the first 2 conference games. So 15 games.
Also football shape is not basketball shape. He would need about 2 weeks to ramp up missing an additional 3-4 games.
Basically about half the season

Exactly… he would miss all fall BB practice, then miss spring football, if basketball makes the tournament

If that happens, it’s a sign both sports are doing well

We had a football player try to play basketball a while back, and he made it for a few games before he gave out because of lack of basketball conditioning. Marcus Spears?

Every time this comes up for a recruit some folks on this board get all titillated. It never works out and the player never plays basketball. In fact most of the time those recruits don't finish their careers at LSU either.

In high school plenty of players do both sports with no problem. I did it. If he's that good at both sports then he can do it.

Yep. High school is totally like college. Barely a difference. That’s why everyone from your high school played in college!

Even if the kid misses most of non conference games and can be serviceable, who cares? McMahon made the offer because the kid can play, and I’m guessing will follow up with another offer to his high school teammate Jared Harris who is a top 50-60 player nationally. It’s a great move.

Jared Harris

Very difficult but can be done if good enough. I remember back in the day Julius Peppers played DL and Forward for North Carolina and was a very serviceable basketball player at one the blue bloods….rare but possible

True, but after he sees how bad our Bball program is, he'll stick to football

Marcus Spears (as mentioned earlier), Michael Clayton, Corey Webster, and a host of other guys were elite in basketball. It’s tough to do. Tight End is probably the easiest transition back and forth and it’s crazy tough.

Yes… the big sports Basketball/ Football, and Baseball/Basketball overlap, yet Ben McDonald, Lyle Mouton, Doug Annison, Todd Kinchen, all made it work

It may be an indication of how desperate McMoribund is that he would even try this hail Mary.
