I went to a funeral today in a small cemetary in Stephens, Arkansas. As I walked to the grave I saw a tombstone with an LSU logo on it. I went over to it thinking it was just a big LSU fan. The heading read Charles McClendon. I just about crapped my pants. I am thinking it is an omen for a good season.

He was one hard nosed coach. His lovely wife is still in Baton Rouge. She was the charmer and still is. LSU should pay her for her PR!

Even on poor Charlie's tombstone the Bear gets a mention.

Ark - you see, it's always going to be a good season. We are LSU, after all. Wins and losses are important, but not the overriding thing. To paraphrase Coach Mac, we can't always win the game, but we can always win the party.

In honor of my favorite coach, Charles McClendon -

Did you think to brush the cut grass off the base of his headstone?

Since it's the award, it's okay. Besides, Mac loved Ol' Bear.
Thank God they didn't use Toonces for the logo! Mac would be constantly turning over if they had!

Since it was nearly impossible to discuss Charlie Mac without someone inserting the Bear into the conversation it seemed so incredible Bear's name would find its way onto Charlie's headstone. For some reason that just hit me between the eyes when I read it. I know the reference was to an award but still......

Knowing Mac and his love for the Bear, it wouldn't surprise me if, out of all the awards he ever won, he was proudest of that one.
Mac loved The Bear the way Les loves Bo.

Yea can we get some flowers for the ole coach, maybe an LSU flag etc. Hard for me to visit a grave and not tend to it in some way.
