I’m sure we know each other IRL. My last game in TGBFTL was Charle Mac and Nick Rouse’s last game at the Tangerine Bowl. JUMAS brother?

Back to OP, my youngest and his son played ball at UHigh together. I’ve never met a more genuine, nice gentleman.

He had amassed some real talent after reluctantly taking the HC job when Bo Rein went down, and Bill Arnsparger used those players to field a heck of a team.

1982. The year we skinned the Bear. Bryant said it was one of the most sound defeats he had ever went through. Score was 20-10. Wayyy more lopsided than the score indicated. That LSU defense was elite that year

They absolutely pounded that option QB Bama had.

I was coming back from a final in December 1983. I was driving down Burbank and heard the news on the radio that Stovall was fired earlier that day. I stopped at an intersection (College Road I think) and he pulled up at the light next to me. I looked over at him and smiled. I will never forget the pained smile he returned. It is an image I will never forget.

No one was more loyal to LSU than Jerry Stovall. Happy birthday coach.

Walter Lewis - he was the first black QB to start for Bama and made All SEC in 1983. Was a decent QB for Memphis for a couple of seasons in the USFL.

I distinctly remember my buddy Mark Jeffers (The Tiger Mascot) talking with Bear Bryant down on the field during pre-game warmups. He said he told the Bear "We're gonna kick yalls arse today" and Bear replied "You're probaly Right."

Many years ago, Valero of St Charles had a United Way Kickoff fund raiser & Jerry was the guest speaker. I'll just cut to the chase & say when he was finish his presentation, the people in the room would have run thru a brick wall if he asked. Besides the motivational talk, he was a gentleman of the first class.

My uncle recruited him. They stayed in touch through the years.

82’ was the year I really fell in love with LSU football. I was 16. I played against Dalton Hilliard and he was one of the reasons my heart started bleeding purple and gold! Great team! Happy Birthday Coach!

I’ve watched a few old tapes of games from that season. That defense was just silly.

I was a freshman in '82. You could get into the games with just your student ID. It rained naval oranges in Tiger Stadium that year. The Stovalls are fine, salt of the Earth, folks. I never liked the way LSU treated Coach Jerry.
