Most of my friends move their family to where they live. I live in the Houston area. Where are they living in Louisiana that their life is so great? My parents lived on an old family farm in NE La in a place that is about as rural BFE as you can get. I eventually moved them to assisted living so my mom could get help in taking care of my dad, but after he passed, moved her here. She's in a small apt near me and loves it. She has no money besides her social security.

My family acted like Dallas and then Houston was the end of the earth. I was a 4 and 5 hour drive. I am the only one that left NE La. But my life is much better and my kids drastically better. I wanted my kids to feel like they could fly and go and do whatever they wanted. Guilting people into staying put against their best interest is an awful thing to do and it's rampant in Louisiana.

Fantastic post.

And respect.

I think this list is mostly because of those legal THC products, the state legislature is working hard to put an end to this so we should be shooting up those rankings any day now.

I can’t imagine hard headed old people that have lived in the same town for 80 years being open to moving. I know my dad would laugh at me

He also wouldn’t want or expect me to live close so I could take care of him

Seems about right. The state is definitely headed in the wrong direction.

the deep south just sucks in general. education, crime, traffic...not hard to see why

The Deep South has the most promise poised out of any region in the US. Louisiana is an outlier. Alabama, Georgia, Carolinas, and Tennessee are all booming. Southern Mississippi might make a run too. Louisiana is just such a corrupt shitehole it’s sad to see. It’s a great state but losing all its best year after year

There are certainly valid arguments to be made to that effect.

These rankings obviously should be taken with a grain of salt. They’re more of a big picture look.

I think these items are very subjective. I’ve lived outside Louisiana (Houston, TX) and made my way back. Have a great job here. Had a great job there. Actually, made more money coming back in my particular situation. I would have had to go the private school route in my situation for either location. My personal situation, I came back because I wanted to be closer to family and I missed the culture. Both things that cannot be ranked on that scale. I did not believe the healthcare in Houston was exponentially better. I thought it was fluffed a lot more, creating an image of better care, but I do not believe people are any better cared for there than the places I have been in Louisiana. I believe our government situation has stifled a lot of job opportunity, which is our biggest downfall. If we could improve our economics, I think we keep a lot of people home and dramatically improve our “quality” of life here. Everything in our country now seems to be predicated on external appearances and what the books tell you is good and right. While I agree, some of the statistics are abysmal, I believe these polls show a very narrow view of the things that make Louisiana what it is and why people do remain content here.

I’ve been in New Mexico, the state formerly #50, and it’s gotten worse in the last three years for sure.

So I’m really proud with how quickly y’all stepped it up.

Depending on career field of course, but the benefits of a robust job market with lots of opportunity will offset this within about 2 years max.

Yeah my job field is very dependent on location. For me, it’s tough to move. But I make good money here so it also doesn’t suck

I'm sure this is true by a very large margin. The litter issue alone is enough to show how stupid the people in our state are.

The level of apathy is what keeps Louisiana at the bottom of lists like these. The high degree of Louisiana natives staying in Louisiana always confused me, but when you realize that apathy sets in, it makes sense.

It's a lost cause.

While the "Louisiana sucks" threads are annoying and oversaturate this page, the amount of apologists on
here are just as bad. I just don't see how you can look around this place and say "this is a great place" unless you haven't been to other places.

"I did fine...young people not finding decent paying jobs and my grandkids going to failing schools doesnt affect me."

"But the hunting, fish, culcha, etc...is so much better here."

"All other places are liberal shiteholes..."

Which is really hilarious because Louisiana is both liberal as frick and a huge shithole.

I still love Louisiana. Entirely possible that its because I live in Houston and just visit Louisiana.

Nonetheless, its a special place unlike any other in the country. If y'all could just loosen the hold that democratic policies have in the urban areas, it would be amazing!
