I just don't understand having a protest at a random college town for something that is occurring 6,000 miles away. If they want to protest, go to DC where policy is made.

The college protests didn't start as a way to change government policy, though I'm sure the students would like that. The students started them as protests against the way the their schools are investing their money. The Columbia students want Columbia University to change their policies, so protesting on campus makes sense for that.

The protest and riots changed my mind. I don't watch the news at all anymore. Showed me it's all BS.

Changed my mind about the sheer number of people that hate Jews.

"But Grandma or Grandpa or great Grand told about all the "free love" and dope smoking they did in the 60's and it sounded so "far out" we had to find some anti-American cause to protest!"

" I am in favor of censoring speech and hating Jews but the people who don't agree with me are Nazis!"

Yes. What a foolish question.

Has the forward pass ever helped a football team win?

Has gunpowder ever helped in war?

Do ladders help us reach high places?

I’m trying to find one statement more obvious than the one you focused on.

50 or even 5,000 people divided up between a bunch of different universities protesting national or global policy won't do anything. 5,000 or even 50 people outside of a local city hall could.

Protests work on women.

They usually strengthen the resolve of most men against whatever issue the protesters are protesting.

There was one in Derry on 1/30/72 that caused a stir: Bloody Sunday.

I’m behind that one, frick these recent Hamas sympathizers.

The lynch mob BLM riots in 2020 no doubt played a huge factor in convicting Chauvin of charges higher than just involuntary manslaughter. It allowed the DA to roll the dice on the more serious charges being brought because he knew he would get a conviction. You had Maxine Waters calling for BLM to get more confrontational in order to convict Derek Chauvin. And it worked.

There was a dude in Biloxi about 20 years ago who staged a sit-in to get the rebel flag changed to the CSA flag. The city council agreed.

Peaceful persistent protests that are genuine and organic have worked. Narcissistic LARPing and terrorism has failed 100% of the time.

I'm not saying it's true or false and it's probably impossible to know

But you could pretty easily make a fairly compelling case that but for the 2020 riots Trump wins that election.

“they want to protest, go to DC where policy is made.”

Or go to the place where the action is occurring.

It's not about changing minds. It's about somehow thinking you are going to force your issue by camping out.

I think some of the domestic pressure has caused Biden, Schumer, and Pelosi to chide Israel and act like they are somewhat neutral, even though nothing has been done in actual practice to restrain Israel.
