Anyone else get this right around summer for about a week? Just come out of the blue and are gone a week later. Not sure what's going on.

Well, the most active fly season is in the hottest summer months, and also our garbage cans are baking decaying matter in the hot sun, so that doesn’t help.

What does help is a bug assault rifle

They lay eggs in any food source/decaying matter like old trash, dead animals, feces, rotting plant/fruit matter, etc.

It’s the same thing, along with water sources, that draw them in.

A more accurate description of these little flies is crap pipe flies. When noticed, I will put 2-3 cups of permythein in a sink or shower drain that gets minimum use. the little bastards travel through the vents and partially filled sewer piping and can swim through water to some extent getting around designed water traps.

frick drain flies. We had them in 2020. They are easy to kill as they just hang out on walls, but they were a pain in the arse to get rid of. I tried pouring some drain fly killer down the drain multiple times and it only worked for a short while. Finally, we went on vacation and I just used masking tape and taped over every drain while we were gone.

Electronic Fly Swatter

Cheap, and fun. I get a thrill from frying those little frickers.

I found a solution years ago. If they are drain flies they are very similar to fruit flies (might be the same thing idk).

I make this bottle trap and put it on edge of my sink. Put some cut up bananas or strawberries in there and pour some water over cut up fruit. The water is key bc from my experience that is what keeps them from getting out of trap. It may take a couple days for flies to start getting in bottle but once one does, they all do. Worked really well for me.

The handle part is stupid, I don't do that lol. I do put some scotch tape at the top so it doesn't slide around and leave cracks for the bastards to get through.

A little dribble of Dawn in all the sinks a couple times a week will knock them out.
