WASHINGTON (AP) — Millions of Social Security recipients will get an 8.7% boost in their benefits in 2023.

That’s a historic increase and welcome news for American retirees and others — but it’s tempered by the fact that it’s fueled by record high inflation that’s raised the cost of everyday living.

The cost-of living adjustment means the average recipient will receive more than $140 extra a month beginning in January, according to estimates released Thursday by the Social Security Administration.

The boost in benefits. the biggest in 40 years, will be coupled with a 3% drop in Medicare Part B premiums, meaning retirees will get the full impact of the jump in Social Security benefits.

“This year’s substantial Social Security cost-of-living adjustment is the first time in over a decade that Medicare premiums are not rising and shows that we can provide more support to older Americans who count on the benefits they have earned,” said Social Security Administration’s Acting Commissioner Kilolo Kijakaz.

Must be nice for those living on a "fixed income" to get over 8%.
How many of you working class types are getting a raise of 8% at your job?

Everything is on the federal credit card. Meaning we are borrowing money from the younger generations to pay benefits to older people today

Best way to fight inflation is to hand out more money. Thank you Mr. President!

Government buying votes? No way!

Also, didn’t Biden say this was transitory inflation?

I mean, you had to put money into SS to get SS so I'm fine with it. If you want to go live off of your SS benefits feel free to retire now and give it a shot.

Of all the things to get pissy about, this doesn't bother me.

You’re bitching about elderly people getting less than $100 increases that will quickly get taken by Medicare premium increases. Pathetic

Boomers would just holocaust us millenials if they didn’t have to work us to death so they could buy rvs

Not sure if millenials are the greatest generation or the forgotten generation

Admin is going to spin this as a win when all it does is pour fuel on the inflation fire and is a reaction to their awful policies.

you realize these people have worked for over 40 years and paid into this every step of the way. Even with the monthly increase, they will never receive all that they have paid in. So how are they "borrowing money from the younger generation to pay benefits to older people? I'll hang up and listen.

I mean, the folks you’re talking about were “working class types” who worked to pay into SS.

This I have no issue with. Their shite doubled too.

It's a COLA adjustment based on inflation. It's not a raise. But you can still thank Biden for the historic inflation.
