Some Tampa Bay Rays players refuse to wear rainbow gear on pride night

Ruh Ro Rorge…. Some brave Christians decided that following Jesus was more important than genuflecting to the collective’s mantra. This can only end badly to thumb your nose at the collective, but then Jesus Himself said that following Him would come at a cost, so there you have it. I wonder how this plays out.

A number of Tampa Bay Rays players decided not to wear rainbow-colored logos on their uniforms as part of the team's annual "Pride Night" on Saturday that recognized the LGBTQ community.
Rays manager Kevin Cash addressed it after Sunday's game, saying he doesn't think it'll negatively impact the clubhouse because discussions among the players over the past few weeks were constructive and emphasized the value of differing perspectives.
"First and foremost, I think the organization has done a really good thing to have Pride Nights supporting our gay community to come out and have a nice night at the ballpark," Cash said. "Impressed that our players have had those conversations and we want to support our players that choose to wear or choose not to wear to the best of our capabilities."
Among players who elected to remove the logos were pitchers Jason Adam, Jalen Beeks, Brooks Raley, Jeffrey Springs and Ryan Thompson, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Adam was elected to speak for the group after the game, saying it was a "faith-based decision" for many of them.
"So it's a hard decision," Adam told the Tampa Bay Times. "Because ultimately we all said what we want is them to know that all are welcome and loved here. But when we put it on our bodies, I think a lot of guys decided that it's just a lifestyle that maybe -- not that they look down on anybody or think differently -- it's just that maybe we don't want to encourage it if we believe in Jesus, who's encouraged us to live a lifestyle that would abstain from that behavior.
"... It's not judgmental. It's not looking down. It's just what we believe the lifestyle he's encouraged us to live, for our good, not to withhold. But again, we love these men and women, we care about them, and we want them to feel safe and welcome here."

It never ceases to amaze me that the majority religion in this country, which controls the levers of power in every branch of government, somehow still has a persecution complex.
Late ETA: Because most of you don't actually read the entire thread before replying with this same crap over and over again, I'm not saying the players have a persecution complex. I'm saying OP has a persecution complex. Carry on.

Good on them. Stand up for what you believe in.

I propose a war.
A war between the LGBT group and the Religion of Islam.

Good for them. I don't see what we glorify and celebrate choices anyway. Wanna be gay, be gay. But what's the point in having everyone approve and champion your choice?

I didn’t realize the gays weren’t allowed to come out and enjoy a game any other night.

Nice deflection from OP's persecution fantasy
I literally could not care less whether a professional team wears pride gear, or whether players on the team refuse to wear pride gear. But pretending like these guys are going to get blacklisted is War on Christmas levels of silly.

There’s no persecution fantasy at work here Josh. It’s just a fact. If you choose to stand for Christ you will not be accepted by this world. That’s proven over and over again for anyone who makes a stand for Christ in this world, and if you are going to follow Him, it should be expected. Calling it sin will get people really upset because they don’t want to hear it called sin. They want everyone to accept it as normal, but God says otherwise, and to be silent or acceptant in it is to be complicit in the sin, or at the very least to be ashamed of Christ, and Christ said that He Himself will be ashamed of us before the Father.
It’s never going to be an easy road to follow Christ. That’s not a persecution fantasy. That’s just a fact that this world does not hold to the things of God, maybe sometimes in word when it doesn’t sting, but not really in their heart they don’t. In the world’s eyes, they’re still good, and still the ruler of their own hearts.

It's a persecution complex to acknowledge societal reality that disagreeing with LGBT stuff might come with professional cost?
Pretty rich considering a few hours ago you were calling the board rubes for objecting to children being encouraged to put money in the thongs of drag queens.

Again, the majority of this country is Christian. The overwhelming majority of people who hold positions of power in government in this country are Christian. I know the Bible lays out a really sexy persecution fantasy, but the United States just isn't a great spot for it. It's a LARP at best here
