The Fresno River Viaduct in Madera County is one of the first completed high-speed rail structures. At nearly 1,600 feet long, high-speed trains will travel over the riverbed and will run parallel with the BNSF Railroad

This is the most remarkable human achievement ever, 1600 feet of high-speed rail after 9 years and 11 billion dollars."

it takes about 5 minutes to walk 1600 feet so a high speed rail for that is a really big deal

That looks like the site of many high speed freeway chase scenes in movies yet to be made.

This is a freaking joke. It’s an embarrassment to the human existence.

Its the poster child for "democracy."

A million different "stakeholders" have input, and get their cut of the pie. Will cost 5x what it should.

Authorities in the US have long planned a Los Angeles-to-San Francisco high-speed rail project which is expected to cost over $100bn, but critics have claimed they have very little to show for it - apart from a 0.3-mile bridge that goes nowhere.

Despite initial funding being approved back in 2008, the line is still a long way off and expected to cost over $100bn in total.

Extremely efficient government you’ve got going on there. Why do you love this so much?

A 2024 opinion piece published in the Times of San Diego compared the California project to high-speed rail in Indonesia, which opened its initial section in 2023. The Indonesian rail project only reaches the outskirts of the cities it serves, requiring a long trip on local transit to reach the city centers. Similarly, the California IOS would require a transfer on both ends to reach the Bay Area and Los Angeles. High-speed rail in Indonesia was reporting an operational loss and lower ridership than forecast.

Btw this less than a mile and would take you 5 minutes to walk in any city.
