T/F: 17th Amendment led us to where we are now

direct election of senators titled too much power from the states to the national government and led us to the disaster. instead of being beholden to the state governments where they could be easily replaced, they could go to the highest bidder and go against voters wishes.

False. At the state level, the national parties get their preferred candidates elected, and that would mean they’d get their preferred candidates into the Senate. Same situation we have now.

The 12th amendment probably had a bigger impact but isn’t discussed as much.
