Woke outerwear clothing brand @REI is shutting down its flagship Portland store following surging theft and public safety issues. The retailer supported BLM during the deadly 2020 BLM-Antifa riots and established a "BIPOC Advisory Council” to advance DEI.

I know REI has always been granola/lefty, but it was a good company and it sucks that you could no longer avoid the advocacy. I feel like enduring climate change, anti-mining, etc. is part of the cost of admission for outdoor gear/activities, but when you couldn't buy a shell without getting inundated with BLM or Trans lives matter stuff...shame.
And then Dick's bought Moosejaw too.

Member when north face won an extraordinary customer award from the Colorado oil and gas association?
“Oil kills!”
Please ignore 99.99% of our products that are petroleum based

I used to get pretty good stuff at the REI garage sales.

They're opening a new location very close to my suburban estate

Awesome! They join the Portland NIKE store that shuttered as well. It's as if people can't learn from mistakes.

Portland is a drug infested cesspool

Some rioters rolling out with kayaks and crampons with fires burning all around would be compelling TV

Son of a bitch. Moving out to Arizona my wife and I started going to REI for outdoor gear. $30 for a membership that has great deals and 1 year return policy is amazing. I havent seen any of the wokeness while shopping there. This sucks to know I am supporting their crap.

My church is doing a "night strike" event tonight to help with the area homeless. Sounds like a good way to pick up some nasty disease

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what is a night strike?

REI is my favorite store to visit. I love it. I don't know why they decided to be political. All portions of the spectrum enjoy the outdoors.

Announcement last year, I don't know when the deal closed.
Moosejaw was one of the only places you could use big discounts and rewards on Arcteryx which had already bailed on online retailers prior to the acquisition, but still they had good CS and hadn't been very pushy on politics.
I can't support them as a Dick's entity, though.
