They aren't going to pay him what other teams will. They screwed the pooch by keeping Staley too long.

IIRC he and the 49er’s ownership didn’t see get along. Once the 49er’s started losing he started looking for a life raft.

Stories were he was allegedly a huge a-hole towards 49ers ownership, such as pulling his team off the field during a private practice for suite holders because he didn’t like the turf and then later telling the owner to leave a team meeting because it was for real men only.

Harbaugh didn’t get along with the GM in San Francisco. And DeBartolo’s spoiled nephew backed the GM who was subsequently replaced by Lynch. Harbaugh is going to want a lot of control wherever he goes.
