Monette isn't a pass rusher. At all. He doesn't have a good get-off at the line of scrimmage.
What he'll give you is a guy who plays with good leverage and can engage and shed a block as well as anybody in the class, and he's an effort guy who'll go find the ball.
I see him as a kid you redshirt and put in the weight room, and in a year or two he plays at 6-3 or 6-4 and 305 or 310 and he's in the mix for you as a run-stopping nose guard.
Here's another kid whose film shows some potential but you won't see much in the way of pass rush. Roman Pitre from the LSU lab school. He's 6-6 and 230 and they had him playing as an outside linebacker in space. Pitre runs pretty well, and he's definitely active. He knocks passes down over and over on film and he contains the edge really well. Looks well-coached. But he'd need some development to become a good edge rusher, because he isn't that now.
EDIT: Never mind on Pitre. He signed with Purdue. Boy, Purdue has started building a presence down here, huh?
But there are a number of guys like this who are still available in Louisiana. I would be willing to bet you start seeing some names popping as Kelly and the recruiting staff start looking at tape and talking to high school coaches looking for diamonds in the rough.

I noticed this immediately, and the fact that he at least has the burst to close quickly on the ball carrier.
I agree 100% that he seems like a guy that has to put on weight and play inside.
