Washington came very close to beating BYU to #1 in the AP. I think the final point total was 1160-1140. Washington also got 16 first place votes to BYU's 38. Florida probably cost Washington the AP national championship due to their 6 first place votes.

Came here to post this. Went 11-1 and beat Oklahoma pretty good in the Orange Bowl. Slipped up and lost to USC 16-7 in the Coliseum fo their only loss. They'd have beat BYU by 3 TDs.
