Try plugging the phone into a computer and put the device in recovery mode with volume up, volume down, and holding the side button until the device has turned back on. On a Mac it will alert you to a device in recovery mode. On a PC I believe you need to fire up iTunes. I suspect the device had an issue with an update. Sometimes an update can expose a problem with the software on the device, sometimes it can expose a hardware issue such as liquid damage. You can try the update again from the computer. If that fails you can try to restore it from the computer. I would try updating first to preserve the data on the device.
