I lost a good friend to Covid this morning. Was his progression typical?

He went in the hospital in Los Angeles on December 27 and never came out. Things got really bad by January 17, but by January 27 he was out of the Covid ward and seemed to be improving. Then a couple of days ago things took a turn for the worse, and by this morning he was dead.
Is that typical?

My parents’ next door neighbor (74) died after a month’s long bout of COVID. This was back in 2020, so my memory is little sketchy, but I seem to remember at week 3, he seemed to be on a better trajectory before finally succumbing in week 4.

Thanks Jones. Not looking for medical opinions, just anecdotal experiences. He got worse, he got better, then died. Is that typical? We all thought the guy was out of the woods.

My neighbor was just admitted to ICU a few hours ago with double pneumonia. Underlying conditions and fully vaccinated. He's in a fight right now.

Need more info. Did he have pre existing medical condition? Did he develope pneumonia? Did he throw a blood clot?

Other comorbidities? What were the impacts of their covid infection? That far removed it seems like some sequlae of covid was responsible.

Sorry for your loss. To answer your question honestly, dying from covid is not "typical" no matter the progression.

But I’m just going by second-hand reports from people who heard from the doctor. From the doctor’s perspective, bottoming out may be a “better trajectory” than constantly falling. It doesn’t mean that the man was in any hopes of recovering.

He was 62 and in good health. Not overweight. He did have bone cancer in his 30's and lost a leg. But he had been cancer free for over 25 years.
Not sure of vaccination status.

I suppose you mean a patient who had seemingly overcome COVID and then sort of regresses. Yes we have seen it. No clue how common it is.
