Securing Schools - How I would start with most schools.

1. Fence around the whole school. Will it stop someone? No, slow them down? Yes.
2. Bullet proof guard shack on the fence line, cameras so he can see the fence line of the whole perimeter and hallways, LEO would have camera access too via internet to locate threat. PA system to alert whole shool of suspicious activity/threat and location. Has visitors or anyone arriving at odd time show bag, etc. contents, sign in, etc. Bathroom inside. (This is the way my work is)
Will it stop someone from coming in when kids arrive and are filing in? No, but it'll help stop/slow down someone showing up at odd times.
3. Metal doors on all classrooms that are locked during class.
Will it stop someone from being shot in the hall? No, but it will help protect the rooms themselves.
4. Metal doors in hallways that teachers can close and lock. Section off areas like a ship with bulkhead doors to contain a leak.
This way if a threat is approaching a zone teachers can move kids to a safe zone and seal of the threat zone if needed.
5. All exterior doors are metal and always locked from the outside. No glass where someone could shoot through and open. Visitors have to be buzzed in.
6. Practice emergency procedures and have plans in place for what to do and how to communicate.
The hardest thing would be screening when kids are arriving and protecting them when they are leaving in mass. That would be tough.
Not saying this would stop every instance and killing, but I think its some things that could be done for a reasonable budget that would for sure help and most people would agree to.
Bash away, lol.

You could’ve saved all that typing by just saying we should turn schools into prisons.

It’s just a damn shame that the US has fallen to this point. I don’t think there’s any saving it.

Definitely baw. And let’s Jack up taxes considerably to pay for it all. Even though it’s completely unnecessary. The more fortress like we can make the schools the better.

Really?!?! You might as well dig a moat with the drawbridge closing at 8am and opening back up at 3.
Posted on 5/25/22 at 9:05 pm to NATidefan
How are you paying for this?

So all the kids saved from school shootings will burn to death in your fiery Titanic deathbox?
Posted on 5/25/22 at 9:06 pm to NATidefan
So you turn the school into a prison fortress.
Then crazy fricks are just gonna start attacking kids on the school bus or something.
You can't stop the decay of America by attempting to physically contain it.

Dude, you realize you’re talking about a school with young kids. Kindergartners, elementary, middle school. Schools!! It’s gotten SO BAD that we need to do this in schools. Don’t you recognize the problem?!?! Dear lord we are screwed

Bus loading area?
Busses themselves
Bus stops
Football games
Dances
Award ceremonies
Where do you draw the line?
This POS was already showing up on radar, he /she/shim should of been eliminated from the herd
The back door to the school should of been locked

Not going to bash away. Something will be done. And it may even include some of the things you list. Any stranger/adult coming into the school has to pass security and sign in.

Wait. No razor wire??
I think 2 guard towers and one Apache helicopter would complete this new school transformation.

Research the term moral panic.

Vets retire with 50% of their base pay as a pension for doing 20 years, plus an additional 2.5% per year served over 20.
Offer them an additional 50%, regardless of years served, if they are employed as an armed school security guard. Make them plain clothes, air marshal style.
A lot cheaper than your option. There are a ton that would do it.

Most prisons don’t have all that, and who is going to pay for this ?
Posted on 5/25/22 at 9:26 pm to NATidefan
Every school should have a moat filled with alligators, drawbridge, 20-ft-high fence and a half-dozen armed guards posted up in watchtowers.

This wouldn’t help much. If you want to solve the problem you have to tear it up by the roots. Which you would do by isolating insane people from other insane people online and institutionalizing people when they show preemptive signs of a shooting like literally every mass shooter ever. Also, I think classroom and school doors are already always locked.

1. I’m certain this would cost far more than you think, at least assuming you want the measures you described to actually work.
2. Do kids not get recess anymore under your plan?
3. Many schools have multiple buildings that often require students to move between them. E.g. a separate cafeteria, gym, etc.
4. Perhaps most importantly - if some psychopath wants to go on a killing spree, he will find a way around these measures. Do they make it more difficult? Sure. But not enough to reasonably hinder someone who is planning this kind of thing. Turning entire schools into safe rooms isn’t the answer. There are just too many things to account for, and it only takes one innocent get getting shot for the entire premise to fail. We need to deal with the psychopaths.
The one thing I would agree with is putting fences around school properties and keeping doors to the outside of the fence line locked. Someone can still cut through a chain link fence fairly easily but at least that’s going to draw a ton of suspicion in broad daylight.
