I’m building a detached garage in st Charles parish. My current slab in on my property line.
Does anyone know if the setback is 3’ or 5’ for the side of my property??
What does filing for a variance entail to build within my setback? Im trying to avoid adding on to my slab.

5 ft. I don't know about the variance.

Your best bet is to call someone in code enforcement or go over to the office and talk with them.

Talk to the Planning and Zoning department. They approve permits. If you need a variance, and the department denies it, you would appeal to the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

I just did this. 5 feet. Go to planning and zoning in Hahnville. They will get you lined up with a 3rd party inspector.
