Challenger explosion was the first memory, but most vivid for me was Tiananmen Square. I was like 8 when I saw this magazine in an airport.

Cuban Missile Crisis. Scared the hell out of me at 9 years old. My brother and I went out and dug a fallout shelter in the back yard. Thank God it didn’t collapse on us.

I could tell my parents were nervous too. I remember asking my dad why did we let the Russians be so close to us like that? It’s still a damn good question. If Russia can take the Ukraine we should take Cuba like tomorrow.

Seems most people were 8-10 years old. That seems about right for me. I was 9 when the Cuban Missile Crisis hit. I do also remember the space race which maybe slightly preceded the crisis. It was us Vs. the Russians.

I knew we didn’t like or trust Russia. Guess things haven’t changed much. Thank God for Reagan. Wish we could find another one just like him.

I vaguely remember the Iran hostage situation from when I was real little. I wasn't aware of what exactly it was, but I do remember people talking about "the hostages."

My opinion: To make it to my age and still enjoy every day, you need to stay both physically and mentally active. Posting and reading here is a part of my mental bit, along with duplicate bridge, and kibitzing and partying with friends and neighbors.

Having been a gym rat all my life, along with golf here at The Villages, the physical is even easier.

Thanks for your comments; regards, OmniPundit.

One of the most unfavorite events of my entire life, I was a lieutenant in an artillery battery on a mountain top in Korea, 12 km from the DMZ.
