No way he can still be alive? Assuming this is the same from my freshman year.

Went there for a short stay. Got my shite together and did not have to go back. It did the job for me.

Way back in the day*, if your kid misbehaved and he was smart, you sent him to St Paul’s. If he was dumb, he became a Rock-A-Chaw.

I did two years as a boarder at St. Paul's. We were a pretty smart bunch of delinquents.

It was certainly a formative experience for me, albeit not exactly what my folks were imagining.

If you send your kid to Catholic boarding school, my advice would be that, yeah, they'll learn a lot, but it doesn't absolve you of the need to parent. You still need to be "hands on" and ask who and what he's actually coming into contact with there.

ETA thanks to Cindy at the St. Paul's cafeteria.

My son goes to SSC and he’s been going there since 7th grade. He’s now a senior. We live on the MS Gulf Coast so he’s not a boarder. I like the school compared to other options we have but that’s probably not saying much.

In general, they do a great job of helping sharp students advance but if you’re in the middle or lower academically, good luck. Money wise, it’s actually a very poor school. They get zero help from the diocese.

As far as the boarders, the words dysfunctional, maybe nerds come to mind.

I know kids that have gone to both SSC and Pass High and all of them say Pass high is a lot harder academically. Most of the SSC kids I know are great kids. They do have a solid sports program; they have a great soccer program.

I thought public school (William Pitcher) was harder than St. Paul's academically, particularly when it came to things liked music and math.

Well, 25-30 years ago, it was where kids who weren’t that bad, but maybe fricked up a little, and got kicked out of a school, got sent. There they learned and worked together to be really really bad.

Brother Joseph was a scary man. He had a two finger punch that would knock you on your arse. Times were different back then.

I don’t really remember much about the school other than this weird goth kid doing a project on the bone thugs crossroads song which ended up with him singing the entire song acapella in front of the whole class.

A goth kid singing crossroads. I wish there was video of this.

Lol I’m just a realest and it must be required to touch boys to be catholic.
I’m not catholic nor had my booty touched other than when the Mrs gets frisky.

How anybody can argue it’s not a cult is beyond me
