You won’t have many college hitters looking 88 slider on first pitch vs a guy who throws 98. Just doesn’t exist at this level. And even if they were looking, it’s a tough pitch to pull or even square up for anything beyond a single.

Agreed. And when you're down in the count against 98, you don't want to get beat with heat...so even a frisbee miss with a slider up in the zone is real tough.

Guidry was the SS for Purple and Thompson was the SS for Gold.

Maybe Hunt knows the spin rates and is being all moneyball snob on us.

Yeah. I meant he was trying to freeze him on the inside. Frontdoor?

Would have to guess Thompson unless Guidry takes it from him.

Moffett’s velo was the biggest surprise today for me. If he stays healthy, he has a chance to be what we all hoped Jaden Hill would be.

Hill’s career was such a disappointment due to injury.

That dog'll hunt, My Man.
Trying to freeze/frontdoor him inside should paint the picture so everybody knows what we're describing, agreed?

Nahhhh. I'm less commenting on the location of the slider and more of the shape. Skenes is going to start on the weekend. His stuff is great. If I saw what I saw today from a true freshman, I'd be drooling. He's a one year guy, so I'm grading on a tougher curve. I'd like it to have more tilt. It's 60 pitches. And I'm not exactly a scout. Just a thought on Day 1.

Just a bit of info about the 2023 season; The SEC will evaluate strike zone calls using Trackman technology this season and will make it available immediately after games in the umpires dressing room. Birmingham will grade the homeplate umpires and, hopefully improve the ball/strike calls during games.

I’ll try to give you the benefit of the doubt… I was on the 3B side and maybe didn’t get the best view of the sharpness of it. But if you look at the results… the MPH and being able to throw it for a strike, that can be better than simply being sharp. Control is always preferred. And it’s hard enough to be a difference maker.

By contrast I think that’s why Dutton was less effective. His FB is okay at 92-94 but his curve is 76-77. Too much difference and too easy to adjust to.

I could have sworn that was already being done. Or do I just remember the press release about it last spring?

They couldn't do it last year because Florida and Tenn. use something besides Trackman. They have since worked out the linkage with their systems

100 people is a large crowd? Lol.

Imagine what he’s gonna look like playing in front of roughly 10,000 people
