Initially I questioned leaving the easy field goal try as well. Then I thought about analytics. In that particular game, the analytics said that we would most likely get that yard, chew up time and still get an opportunity to score either the TD or an easier FG. I was talking to a buddy about how may 4th downs that BK goes for. He made the mad hatter look sane. My buddies response was that the mad hatter did it when nobody else was. Thats the difference. Teams now have analytics calling plays more than traditional sentiment.

Analytics are mostly for morons who can’t think. And since most coaches are morons, analytics have their place. The classic is those stupid cards that tell coaches when to go for two. And they get it wrong all the time. For one thing, if it isn’t the fourth quarter you should never go for two, but these buffoons do it a lot.

Mad Hatter did it because he had nothing to lose. Shortly after when he did, he rarely did the mad hatter thing IIRC. He became conservative AF.
