I can’t tell if this is because I’m too old or too young lol

When was there a bowling alley in the Union.

It either didn’t last very long or has been gone for over a decade bruh

It was a big part of the student union when I was a freshman in 1972. But then again, I haven't lived in Baton Rouge since 1986, so I don't know.

The thin crust pizzas at the bowling alley in the early 2000s were legit.

For the really old timers, was there ever a time when the Union seemed nice? Same goes for Middleton. Those buildings are such embarrassments now and have been for generations.

2010. I worked construction on the renovation while going to school at LSU. I still get my hair cut by the guy that ran the Barber Shop in the bowling alley. There was also a real pool hall and arcade down there.

There was a bowling alley and a Swenson’s ice cream place. None of that is there now. I have no idea where anything else is anymore. I’m dirt old.

Highland was great, one day in 2009 they had ribeye steaks, you got a ticket to get one.

Snooker & Ping Pong Tables too! My Brother was the Snooker King @ LSU.

I'm sure the Book Store is still there, yes!?! Long before Ofc Depot, Staples the BS had all kinds/types of cool LSU gear/merch. Every version of past/present LSU Tiger Logo merchandise, bumper/window stickers, clothing, hats, balls, patches, etc. Hook Rugs, Needle/Thread & Sewing stuff even. You could spend an entire day @ that Book Store and still not see everything. And the ladies that worked there were "entrenched" and had been there for like 1/2 century it seemed.

I went to High School around the corner. We would get out after 5th Hour (sometimes after 4th) and go to the Union and play pool. Then we would go hack for 7th hour (baseball practice) The pool tables were adjacent to the boiler lanes.

It was post Katrina when the union was remolded. there were a number a phases, one of which killed the old barber shop, killed the Piccadilly style cafeteria, and took out the bowling alley and pool tables.

One of my civil engineering profs worked on the original Union project. He had a lot of photos and plans of the original proposal and the building project.
He told us that the Union project was originally proposed as something really special and was to be a futuristic vision to take LSU into the 21st century.
Alas Louisiana politics of the late 1950s stuck its’ nose into the project and phucked it up.
The original design engineering/ architect team had wanted the building to resemble the ongoing space race to the Moon and 2001:A Space Odessey.

Now we have an abomination of that vision.
