If Skenes is dominant enough on the mound to earn the Saturday spot, JJ will have difficult decisions about giving him ABs when he is not pitching. Is his bat in the lineup so valuable to risk an injury 3-4 ABs a game, which could lead to losing him as a pitcher for extended time? A fb to the hand and he could be out for a while.
With the plethora of hitter options vying for ABs at DH, if Skenes is a top 3 starter for us, it may not be worth risking injury at the plate.
It may very well come down to what was promised to him when he was recruited to transfer and where he sees his value at the next level (pitching vs hitting).
The competition and shakeout will be very interesting to say the least.
