He doesnt have to fire him. He could reassign him to off field position and hire a hot shot special teams coach. Surely Kelly can see we need help there. Bottom of the SEC isnt going to cut it.

Won’t happen. For recruiting reasons, Polian will likely still be the special teams coordinator next year.

This and let him keep his same capacity in recruiting.

The “on-field coach” designation is way more important for the recruiting coordinator than it is for a special teams coach.

It’s far more likely that they hire an off-field assistant to run special teams at practice. Which, IMO, would be a reasonable solution.

I know nobody wants to hear it and I’m not defending Polish’s ST units by any means, but improved depth / greater scholarship numbers should help next year as well. Better depth means less starters on special teams, which should allow more practice time for special teams.
