I know a solar farm was voted on and approved but does anyone know the exact location and the estimated start date / project duration?

frick those things, I hope the property owners were smart enough to get the project bonded for cleanup and remediation. I doubt it though as they are exempt for 10 yrs on this.

It’s going out in the bluff creek area. Supposed to be 1400 acres. No idea of a start date.

I hunt in the Bluff Creek area and was told that they were targeting large tracts of land on Hwy 959 from Soterra and a handful of other landowners. Apparently the tracts are on 959 and south of 959, with all or most east of hwy 409.

I noticed they clear cut a bunch of acreage in that area. More than the 1400 stated in the article. I’d assume Soterra cut most of their property then the solar farm will chose which 1400 acres they want ?

Thats not true. Starting Jan. 2022 all solar lease contracts must be bonded for cleanup and mitigation to existing conditions or better, per State of Louisiana. The State requires it if they or Feds are subsidizing the project in any compacity.

They cut a huge tract on Genola Rd.

These things don’t work economically unless government subsidies are involved.

The exemption is for the federal mandate and was in one of the big bills passed in the last 1.5 yrs. I believe it was thr one that allocated a bunch of funds for "green" innovative but could have been the jobs bill.
Glad the state put that in but still I stand by what I said, frick Solar Farms.

I get it. Buts its an easy way to make money and still own the land. Way more profitable than cattle business and oil/gas leases don't exist like they used too.
Who is the artist of your sec mascot picture? That thing is cool!

The companies are paying ridiculously high rental prices per acre. It's impossible to turn it down as a landowner.
On the side note--all the projects want ITEP exemption from the Parish and School board when most of these projects will employ one (1) full time employee...
Washington Parish just voted down ITEP for one project (wanted $25million in tax breaks for one full time job).
