We got 1 episode in and were underwhelmed for it to be Mike Flanagan.

With the series having been canceled by Netflix, is the one season worth it without being plagued by cliffhangers?

Huh?

It wasn't canceled, it is a self-contained mini-series ala Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manner. The ending of the season concludes the story.

And personally yes, its worth it IMO. It's a slower build and slower burn at times but I think it is the second-best thing he's done for Netflix.

But all of that and everyone else's opinions aren't necessarily going to translate to your tastes. All I can say is the first couple of episodes are mostly foundation-setting and aren't as naturally captivating as later episodes, but the show has some of the best moments in Flanagan's work IMO.

It wasn't cancelled. It is a mini-series. You have to approach it like a very long movie. The first several episodes are setup for the insanity of the second half. I find that it (and Midnight Club) have a very M. Night feel. Slow burn, moral driven, until the twist hits and insanity ensues.
