Go to the local general aviation terminal and ask about instructors and lessons. They may offer you a test flight. Go to a FAA licensed doctor and take your physical. You are now a student pilot. Purchase an online flight school course and learn the test material. while doing that you can start logging time flying with your CFI in a rented plane. Pass your exam, do your practicals, solo, and done.
Budget 5-7K depending on where you are located. Expenses include courses, plane rental, CFI fees, medical, fuel, and miscellaneous.
